Slic is one of Google Map's Favorite Places.Potsdam, NY – January 11, 2010 – Slic Network Solutions has been identified as one of “Google Maps Favorite Places.” The honor was bestowed to the 100,000 top most searched businesses listed in their Local Business Center. The award included a window decal that businesses can display containing a QR Code (see image below), also known as a 2D bar code. Visitors can scan this code with their camera phone using any of a number of free scanning applications such as Semacode or NeoReader which will then automatically load the mobile version of Google's listing of the business. From there, you can get driving directions to/from the business, view more details about the business, see consumer reviews, be redirected to their website or automatically dial the business' phone number. QR Codes are used widely in Japan where they originated. There, the majority of cell phones have code readers built in and the codes are used for just about anything including viewing updated schedules at bus stops and in print advertisements to redirect viewers to more on-line content. “This is pretty cool technology to have and the uses for it are virtually limitless,” said Jeff Yette Slic Network Solutions Sales Engineer. “We plan on using the codes in some upcoming ads and printed material in hopes the idea catches on here in the states,” Yette added. From a marketing perspective, you can include a QR code as small as 1” square which can than display volumes of additional on-line information on a customer's cell phone. Businesses that wish to learn more about Slic Network Solutions’ services can contact Jeff Yette, Sales Engineer at 315-274-9022 or by e-mail: sales@slic.com Update January 6th, 2010 @ 5:02pm A pick-up truck struck a telephone pole in the Brasher Center area cutting Slic Network Solutions' fiber optic line connected to its phone switch. This caused service issues for many of their customers. The accident occurred shortly before 3:00pm. The location of the accident and cut was discovered around 3:15pm at which time repair crews went on site to begin work on the issue. Service was restored at 5:02pm with a handful of customers in the Massena area remaining without services until 5:25pm. Service has been restored to 100% of Slic's customers at this time. This was very similar to the Verizon's 12/22/09 issue that affected their customers in Massena, Waddington and Madrid. We're hopeful the driver of the vehicle is okay, but we have not received word at this time. NETWORK MAINTENANCE December 11, 12, 18 & 19 DANC, an underlying carrier of some of Slic Network Solutions services, is performing maintenance/upgrades to their network beginning 10pm Friday (12/11) and ending 2pm Saturday (12/12).
